Something to think about.

Compared to the cyanotype, the artist's rendition displays more detail in color and characteristics. It does make a difference because it's as if the object left its shadow, its presence, on the print and I think it definitely affected Anna Atkins' audience as it was far off from an artistic rendition of the actual algae. Where the cyanotype lacks in level of detail over a modern digital colour image, it makes up in the aesthetic value and stimulates the imagination by a sort of abstraction. There is certainly aesthetic resonance to the cyanotype image as there is a good balance of blue tones which creates fluidity in the image.
